Why do children need a chiropractor?

A main concern for you as a parent is how to ensure your children have the opportunity to become their healthy best. Chiropractors are trained to assess and treat problems within the nervous system so that your child’s body can function properly and be healthy. The system that is in charge of interpreting those messages in order for your body to properly adapt is the nervous system. The nervous system is the master control system over the growth, repair and function of every tissue and organ in the body.

Should someone take their child to a chiropractor only when they have certain symptoms, or could every child benefit from a chiropractor? At what age should a child be looked at?

One of the most physically, chemically and emotionally stressful events that we all go through in life is being born. The birth process is unavoidably stressful to say the least. Newborns are susceptible to becoming subluxated during birth. (The loss of normal spinal function and accompanying neurological disturbances are together called spinal subluxations.) Such an injury during childbirth may not immediately be obvious, and if left untreated could cause long term effects in one’s health. That’s why I recommend a baby get checked as soon as possible after birth. My son was adjusted 20 minutes after birth and is now 3 1⁄2 years old. Although he has been sick from time to time, he has never needed antibiotics for illness, never had an ear infection nor had digestive problems.

What are signs/symptoms to look for that a child may be having issues with the spine?

Sign include fever, wheezing, ear infections, digestive problems and coughing, among other things. Is it common for children to have these kinds of symptoms? You definitely see children with signs and symptoms of illness, however it is not normal. Normal is a child free of symptoms with a healthy nervous system.

How does chiropractic care affect a child’s overall health?

Chiropractic works directly with the nervous system to increase the body’s ability to function properly. The nervous system works in direct relationship with the immune system to help promote health.

How long have you been in business, and what kind of services do you offer for kids?

I began practicing in 2007, so I am working on my 10th year. We started Coastal Community Chiropractic in July 2015. We offer complete evaluations and health assessments. This includes a full physical with orthopedic evaluation and neurological examination. We have on-site thermal scans and X-rays when necessary. We offer full spine adjustments and therapies to improve spinal and overall health.

Why did you become a chiropractor?

I became a chiropractor because of my dad’s experience when I was growing up. I researched the advantages of chiropractic care more and more and ended up applying to school for it.

What other facts do parents need to know about chiropractic care for children?

Chiropractic is extremely safe for babies and toddlers. A chiropractic adjustment is extremely gentle and light in pressure. Also kids typically respond much faster to chiropractic than we do as adults, so results are typically seen very early on in care.
