Sweet Pete’s is a fabulous local candy shop that makes amazing, homemade sweets right in Jacksonville. They also offer their sweets in various stores in the region. But their shop is about much more than buying sweets. They offer candy-making classes and parties for all ages. We’ve taken our kids to a class there before, but they recently moved to a new, larger location in downtown Jax. The wildly decorated shop, itself, has a larger-than-life personality. Fernandina Beach mom Anna Battista took her children to the new shop and wrote the review below. Thanks, Anna! ~ Mamamelia

Sweet Pete’s… A candy lovers dream come true.

Last Fall Sweet Pete’s moved from a small house on Pearl Street to the former Seminole Club in Downtown Jacksonville. The 22,000-square-foot space at 400 N. Hogan St. features three levels.

Before visiting Sweet Pete’s, I often heard it compared to something out of the “Willy Wonka” movie. Well… those reviews were right. It truly is a candy and chocolate lovers’ dream come true. I even noticed several pictures from the Willy Wonka movie displayed.

Each floor offers something for everyone: The first floor offers a full service bar and café called “Candy Apple Café” with indoor and outdoor dining on a large cozy porch. The first floor also offers a small Sweet Pete’s shop to grab some goodies to bring home.

The second floor is where the fun begins. From a bake shop to an ice cream parlor to a huge array of candies, chocolates, gifts, and a whole lot more to choose from. They also offered an enclosed and open porch where you could enjoy your treats and even choose one of their many board games for your family to play. On the same floor they do “factory tours,” which was really neat. We got to peak at the chocolatiers doing what they do best.

Choices, choices: so many lollipops to choose from!

On the third floor, they offer party space as well as classes and even a banquet space.

My family and I had a great time visiting Sweet Pete’s and would highly recommend checking this place out. Either for a class, treats, or pairing with a visit to the Museum of Contemporary Art, which was right across the street.
When it came to picking out our treats, my children decided to have the lollipops, which were a decent size and delicious. I filled a box with gummy candies and chocolates for $5 — they were so good! My husband enjoyed a packaged box of chocolates from the first floor store.

It’s definitely one of the cutest places I’ve seen in a long time.
