Upcoming Kids’ Events July 13-19

It’s another week packed with great activities for families. Nassau County residents can tour the Amelia Island Museum of History free of charge. Kids can learn to surf from the pros for free in Jacksonville Beach, “Read with Pirates” in Fernandina and go on a scavenger at the beach. You can even get a free meal by dressing like a cow this week. All Day: Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-Fil-A / All Locations

It’s dress-up day at all Chick-Fil-As today. Show up dressed like a cow and get a free meal, or wear any cow accessory to get a free entree. Read more here.

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mega Pet Adoption / Jacksonville

Come to the Jacksonville Expo Center at the Fairgrounds and adopt one of more than 600 dogs, cats, kittens and puppies. A $25 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, micro-chip, vaccines and city license; active duty and retired military receive free adoptions. Continues through Sunday. Details at fcnmhp.org.

1 to 3 p.m. Classical Conversations Homeschool Group Info Session / Jacksonville

There is a Classical Conversations Homeschool Group forming for North Jacksonville and Nassau County families, and they will offer an info session today at the Highlands Library Branch in JAX. 6 to 8:30 p.m. A Catty Shack Ranch Nighttime Feeding Event / Jacksonville

Stroll the sanctuary with a tour guide and meet all the residents (Siberian tigers, lions, cougars, spotted and black leopards, a serval, two coatimundis and two arctic foxes) plus get a chance to see them eat! 7 p.m. CCHS Presents Fiddler on the Roof / Kingsland

All Nassau County residents are invited to tour the Amelia Island Museum of History for free today. “Fun Day” will include special activities for kids from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., including games, prizes and a chance to create an artifact jar with shark teeth and arrowheads. Read more here.

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Super Grom Surf Festival for Kids / Jacksonville Beach

10 to 11 a.m. FREE Lowe’s Build and Grow Clinic: Kung Fu Panda Spinning Attack / All Lowe’s Locations

Kids can build with wood, learn new skills and gain confidence at Lowe’s during these free clinics twice a month. This week, build a funny, spinning Kung Fu Panda. Get a free apron, and then collect patches to attach to the apron for each theme. Read about our visit to one of these clinics here.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Save the Rhinos Event at JAX Zoo / Jacksonville

Learn about the rhinoceros and listen to a keeper chat at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. or 3 p.m. at this event honoring the endangered animal. There will also be special activities for kids, including a “Pin the Horn on the Rhino” game and a visit from Jazoo, the zoo’s mascot, and his friend, a rhino mascot. 11 a.m. Biker’s Fest for Kids / Hilliard

The 2nd Annual Biker’s Fest for Kids is put on by Second 2 None Riders, the Concerned Citizens of Hilliard and the Youth Explosion. The Riders Club will be offering a bicycle giveaway while the Concerned Citizens will be passing out school supplies. Free food, too.

1 to 2:30 Turtle’s 46th B-Day Party at MOSH / Jacksonville

This party at the Museum of Science and History will kick off with Tonca the Turtle’s annual check up and weigh-in. Then guests can enjoy face painting, cake, birthday cards and hats, and special animal encounters. See turtles, snakes, baby alligators and other resident reptiles up close. MOSH if also offering a deal to anyone who books their child’s birthday party today.

1 p.m. Tree Hill Nature Center Second Saturday Program / Jacksonville

Fernandina Parks & Rec will lead kids on a beach scavenger hunt.  Kids can help pull a seine net to discover what swims below the waves. They will also dissect sharks!  Call 904-277-7305 for information.

“Chasing Satellites.” Youth will be introduced to satellites and how they benefit our everyday lives. Youth will learn how to spot and track satellites in the night sky. This program takes place at the fairgrounds.
