Playgrounds are the stuff of growing up, and our region has some great play areas for local kids.
But one thing that’s missing is a place that children with special needs can access as readily as their peers. Enter 8 Flags Playscapes, a local nonprofit with a dream to build a beautiful playground that every child can enjoy, regardless of abilities.
They already have a place reserved near the Atlantic Rec Center on Atlantic Avenue in Fernandina Beach, close to the entrance to Egan’s Creek. Now all they have to do is raise the remaining funds to pay for the project. One way you can consider to help is to purchase a brick that will be placed at the playground with your family or business’s name on it.
