Each year St. Marys has a special day set aside where the spirit of giving is shown in a way we rarely see these days.

It’s all thanks to the Dixon family, who decided one year to organize an event reminiscent of the “old days” in St. Marys, when the paper mill used to pass out stockings to employees’ children.

These days, though, Christmas in the Park is an event that serves many more people, and though the free stockings are still a favorite feature, there are plenty of other activities, too.

The Dixons — with the help of a number of local businesses and charities — give away 1500 stockings each year. Kids can also visit with Santa and a number of other holiday characters, play carnival style games, enjoy free hot dogs, drinks and cookies, and end the day with a free holiday movie under the stars. There will also be live holiday performances throughout the day, face painting and bounce houses.

The event takes place in the beautiful waterfront park in St. Marys’ downtown historic district.

Santa arrives at noon aboard the Toonerville Trolley.
