Great Harvest Bread of Amelia Island started offering its delicious breads on Sadler Road in Fernandina Beach Jan. 13.
They know the meaning of fresh bread: theirs is made from whole wheat that they freshly grind into flour every day. With freshness like that, there’s no need for preservatives or additives.
And here’s something this foodie (and her foodie children!) really appreciates: every time you visit, you can count on getting a free sample slice of bread, still warm from the oven.
Great Harvest Bread Co. is a national company, but the nearest of its bakeries was almost 200 miles away from Amelia Island — until now. Owners Dirk and Jodi Henson explain on their website that it’s a “freedom franchise.” That means they use recipes and methods procures at the original Great Harvest–which started in Montana and continues to use wheat from Montana family farms–but they customize their bakery to fit our community.
In addition to savory breads, they offer sweet breads, scones, muffins, cookies, sandwiches and breakfast as well as drinks.
Check out their Facebook page to get a look at their offerings. Or, better yet, go to their website for the menu of breads and sweets they’ll be serving up this month. Honey Whole Wheat, Cheddar Garlic and 9 Grain are among their featured breads. Among sweets, there’s Pumpkin Chocolate Chip bread, and the interestingly-named Toe-Curling Brownies.
Their sandwich menu has all kinds of options… even peanut butter and jelly for those of us who will be bringing pint-sized fussy eaters along.
They also offer catering services and gift baskets.
